When installing a child car seat in the front passenger seat, the airbag must be switched off, should the airbag deploy in the event of an accident, it could cause danger to your child. Honda and Toyota dealers we spoke claim the airbags cannot be shut off and child car seats must be placed in the back seat. So there is no key to switch of the airbag, and if you manage to do it by your self or in a garage, it would invalid your insurance.

Yesterday i spoke to a friend who has a Pajero sport, he say there is switch in the glove compartment, although he never used it.

Has any of you seen a switch or a key in your car, to turn of the passenger seat airbag?

Slightly off-topic, but when I rent a car in America the air bag on the passenger's side is automatically disabled (switched off) because it detects that my girlfriend, who is an adult weighing 39/40 kilos, is a child.

Probably not a bad thing if your girlfriend is also short.
