Bubbha
Hi - I am American and I'm looking for a US based phone number that would be able to receive an SMS in Thailand - forwarded to my Thailand phone number (is this possible?). Many of the login systems in the US are moving toward two factor (SMS) authentication. I have a US based Skype number where calls are forwarded to my Thailand phone, but this Skype number is not enabled to receive SMS. Thanks for any suggestions and advice. Langsuan Man
Get a Google Voice number which will work for US bank SMS verification purposes Luckily you have a Skype number that you will be able to use to "verify" and set up your GV number https://support.google.com/voice/answer/150640?hl=en
mtls2005
Do you have a smartphone? Google Voice can receive most SMSes, but still is limited with some Short Code-SMS (SCSMS). SMSes can be delivered directly to a smartphone using Hangouts, or via GMail to any platform/client. From Google Voice Product Manager: "Google is supporting some short code but if it's important you would be wise to have the bank notify you through your mobile network instead of through Google voice." Talkatone works well. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.talkatone.android&hl=en But there are many, many other options; look in the Play Store (assuming you have an Android phone, or the iStore for an iPhone) https://play.google.com/store/search?q=free texting&c=apps&hl=en https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.textmeinc.freetone&hl=en https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pinger.textfree&hl=en You could get Talkatone, then maybe use it plus a VPN to get GV. https://productforums.google.com/forum/?hl=en#!topic/voice/YXhUZGnwzYw You should research the various log-in systems you use to see which SMS providers will work with your 2-step systems.
