Cabinet-NCPO to discuss post-referendum work plan

BANGKOK, 9 August 2016 (NNT) - The Cabinet and the National Council for Peace and Order are scheduled to hold a meeting and discuss their work plan after the public referendum on the new draft charter was wrapped up successfully.

Deputy Prime Minister Gen. Prawit Wongsuwon and Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam said on Monday that the result of the referendum should not be considered as the victory of the NCPO, but a reflection of the people’s wish for the country to see a general election.

Both have confirmed that the general poll will take place before the end of 2017 and this matter will be brought up for discussion at the Cabinet-NCPO meeting on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha has sent a floral arrangement to the Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC) to offer his moral support after the referendum ended with a success.

Meanwhile, CDC Chairman Meechai Ruchupan said that the charter drafters will start working on the amendment of the new charter in order to make it comply with the endorsed referendum question, while explaining that the process should take 30 days before the amended draft is presented to the Constitutional Court for consideration.
