A proposed Chinese-built highway linking Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville appears to be moving forward, after the chairman of the company behind the project met with Prime Minister Hun Sen in Phnom Penh yesterday. After the meeting at the Peace Palace, a delegate in Mr. Hun Sen’s administration said the prime minister had discussed three road development projects with Wen Gang, chairman of the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC).
 

“The chairman of CRBC asked for comments from Samdech Hun Sen in order to achieve these projects. He wanted some instructions,” Dr. Kao Kim Hourn said. “Samdech urged the Chinese firm to work closely with state organizations and relevant ministries to implement these projects as soon as possible and ensure they are achieved.”
 

However, he declined to give more information on the three proposed road projects. In April, CRBC vice-president Lui Hong told a Cambodian delegation in Beijing that his company planned to build an expressway on what is the current National Road 4, between Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville.
