Bulgarian runner Silvia Danekova has tested positive for a banned substance in Rio. She has been temporarily suspended pending a B sample test.

The 3,000-metre steeplechase athlete tested positive for banned blood booster erythropoietin (EPO) on her arrival in Brazil on July 26 to compete in the Olympic Games.

The Bulgarian Olympic Committee’s Secretary General Belcho Goranov told reporters: “Unfortunately, we have a positive test.” He declined to name the competitor.

The country’s reputation has been marred by several doping cases. Its weightlifting team was banned from competing in Rio.
