August 18, 20169 yr Hi, I've got a question about my wife's surname in the UK citizenship application. It's a bit of a long story but would really appreciate a bit of help/guidance please. I'm in the process of filling out the Application for Naturalisation as a British Citizen for my wife. We're married and in my wife's Thai ID card she has my surname but her passport hasn't expired yet so it has her maiden name and for this reason her ILR residence card has her maiden name also. Can we complete the citizenship application with my surname? Or must it be the same as her ILR card and passport? It does say in the application that 'if the surname is different you must explain why on page 22'. I'm just a bit concerned it will complicate matters. Thanks in advance for the help.
August 18, 20169 yr Author Sorry, just read through the guidance notes again and it specifies that.. " If you have married or entered a civil partnership and changed your name, and you wish to be registered in that name, you should change your name on your other passport, travel documents and national identity card, to reflect that name, before sending us your application. This is to avoid a person having official documents in more than one identity" So we'd need to renew her passport, but would we need to then change her name on her ILR residence card before applying for citizenship?
