OSLO: -- A senior Norwegian politician has been criticised for playing Pokemon Go on her smart phone during a parliamentary hearing about the country’s defence policy.

Liberal Party leader Trine Skei Grande was caught on camera during a foreign affairs and defence committee hearing catching a Pokemon – it was not immediately clear which one – after asking a question to a group of military experts.

“It is crucial that we take our responsibility in the NATO alliance and the Arctic seriously. We have been talking about very important things today,” Oeyvind Halleraker, the committee’s deputy leader told the daily VG, which first reported the story.

Grande’s antics follow reports that Norway’s Prime Minister Erna Solberg has also indulged in the craze during an official trip to Slovakia.

On Wednesday the Philippines became the latest country to ban it from government offices following similar decisions by Southeast Asian neighbours to limit the blockbuster smartphone game because of its impact on productivity.

Finally some sort of explanation of how Norway has gone from the world wealthiest nation with an excellent standard of living to a mecca of uncontrolled violence more resembling a Somalian slum. The leaders chose not to concentrate on the issues at all, instead playing some fantasy computer game.

Not very good really!

Even worse is her defence of herself.

Grande said she stopped playing the game after complaints from hearing participants, but she defended herself from accusations that her actions were disrespectful.

"Some of us have heads that listen better when we can do something brain-dead on the side," Grande told VG. "We're not all alike. More sensational things came up during the hearing than this."
