Indian Investors See Cambodia as Gateway to Asean

Indian businesses are looking at Cambodia as a convenient hub in the lower Mekong area, as access to trade with neighboring Vietnam and Thailand improves, a government advisor said yesterday. Speaking at a seminar titled “Asean Integration and the Role of India,” Sok Siphana, a lawyer and a leading corporate figure, said that Cambodia’s increasing regional supply networks have made the country much more appealing to Indian businesses looking to trade in the region.
 

“There are so many areas in high-tech, in technology, in engineering, in agricultural machinery, all these things will find a place here,” Mr. Siphana told the audience. “We could be gate way to Asean, we could be your partner to assemble tractors to sell to Laos, and to Myanmar,” he said.  
 

The Indian ambassador to Cambodia, Naveen Srivastava said that Cambodia presents a number of advantages to lure Indian investors. “Indian businesses are looking very actively at Cambodia. You have low labor costs, you have a lot of agricultural resources that have a lot of potential,” he said.
