Two South Korean phone scammers arrested

BANGKOK: Two South Koreans who operated a call centre scamming operation in Vietnam and managed to cheat over 500 investors in South Korea of about 53 million baht of their investments have been arrested by Thai immigration police.

The two suspects, 31-year old Suk-woo Yang and 29-year old Sang-yi Yoon, were presented to the media at a press conference on Friday at the office of the Immigration Bureau.

Pol Lt-Gen Natthorn Prohsunthorn said the arrest of the two alleged phone scammers was the result of a cooperation between the Interpol and the Thai immigration officials.

He disclosed that the two suspects and other accomplices who are still at large operated a call centre in Ho Chi Minh City. Armed with the information of potential victims they hacked from their banks, they called their victims to persuade them to invest in their businesses by offering high returns.

Over 500 people were duped and wired their money totaling 53 million baht to invest in their operations.

In last October, the gang closed its operations in HCMC and escaped to Thailand.

The duo were caught at an educational institute in Phaholyothin area.

Pol Lt-Gen Natthorn said the two suspects had been blacklisted to prevent them from visiting Thailand.

BANGKOK:-- Thai immigration police have announced the arrest of two alleged Korean fraudsters wanted by Interpol for running a call center in Ho Chi Min City, Vietnam.

Su Glu Yang and San Jee Yoon were arrested in the Pahonyothin area yesterday.

They were wanted on an international warrant in connection with running a call center whereby it is alleged they masqueraded as bank officials in obtaining customers' details.

The information was used by them and other gang members who remain on the loose to steal 1,700 million won or 53 million baht.

Both of the South Koreans entered Thailand last year and were extending visas by claiming to be studying. But they were just hiding in Thailand.

Their entitlement to live in Thailand was rescinded ahead of their deportation.

I've participated in sex fetishes that look more normal than that photo.

Just wondering why the Criminals always get to hide their faces , wear disguises, hide their heads.

They don't give a S*%t because nothing will happen to them, just deported. What about charging and prosecuting them under the laws we have here in Thailand?

If nothing is done why would they stop this type of activity, again Thailand a great Criminal Operation Base

Just get a tourist visa, bring my note book and rent a small room. In business and no one is the wiser, if not greedy, don't push it and move on to a new location and start over. Digital Nomads my Ass.

Don't leave us hanging like that ..... tell us more ...

Disgusting!

Geezer

A post promoting the use of a disallowed site has been removed as well as a reply.

I don't think they can be prosecuted by Thailand as the scamming was done from HCMC. Unless of course they duped Thai nationals. It seems it was Korean bank account holders from the OP.

Arrest and return for prosecution.

That is true in every case of the police parading around in a photoset.

The t-shirt probably says: "Got arrested in Thailand and all I got was this lousy yellow T-shirt.

Order yours at: 02-213....."

"Pol Lt-Gen Natthorn said the two suspects had been blacklisted to prevent them from visiting Thailand."

And yet here they were, in Thailand?

Face masks and sunglasses are supplied by the immigration for the photo shoot.

The secret is not to get to greedy and keep moving one step ahead of the Keystone Kops. These guys apparently went back to the well once to often and fell in.

Based on some stranger calling them on the phone. Amazing.

...you'd think that only foreigners commit all crimes here...

when they are free, someone can offer them a job as CEO

if the culprit was a farang overstayer, they would put his picture in full display

These guys didn't commit their call center crimes in Thailand, they only used this country to hide after they went on the run.

In some countries it is illegal to overstay or lie to Immigration to gain advantage, and prosecution for this is possible. I don't know if they are offences in Thailand. If it were so, perhaps a few prosecutions would deter others from pretending to be students to stay illegally here.

omg....another poster that has problems reading articals.........what criminal crime did they commit here? nothing.

They were hiding here.... crime committed in Vietnam.

The only breach in Thailand was apparently claiming to be students on foreign student visas that were up for extension. Exactly the same senerio as native speaking english foreigners working here as teachers on tourist visas.

Visas rescinded because they were wanted in Vietnam.

So please explain, how should Thailand prosecute theses 2?
