Thailand’s tallest woman dies at age 24

 

Thailand’s tallest woman who was once recorded by Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s tallest woman with a height of 214 cm has died of high blood pressure at the age of 24.

 

A sketchy report said that she was rushed to Borai district hospital in Trat province with high blood pressure and she was later pronounced dead.

 

Her body was later taken to Wat Chang Klua in Tambon Huey Raeng, Muang district by her parents, Mr Man and Mrs Jee Kohsod.

 

However, it was discovered that her body could not be put into the coffin as it is too small and a new coffin has to be made.

Sad... but why?  Most likely we will never know.

You don't normally die of high blood pressure alone, this sounds very strange. What kind of Doctor says someone died of high blood pressure, that's just not normal.

Well spotted. Some Thai doctors are very good, but others are quacks of the kind that give you dozens of pretty coloured pills for a minor ailment.

Poor girl, she had the misfortune of being born to a community without proper medical personnel and who cannot make a coffin to size. The parents are probably unaware that they could request a proper inquiry into how she was handled.

Neither is her height "normal." It's not unusual for an extremely tall person to die at an early age.

normally it is a tumor that makes you grow & grow

 

the heart cannot take this, hence the high blood pressure

 

heart might have been weakened by this

 

if there is a brilliant doctor that gives her high blood pressure pills => sudden drop and no oxygen flowing to some parts like brain => coma => game over

My mum has battled high blood pressure all her life but she always had medications and died at an old age.

You are so right but remember the story about all the cheating just to get into medical study then when in the   '  no fail  '   policy kicks in and yet another bunch of unqualified people are let loose.

Being different to the norm can be a poisoned chalice.

No doctor has claimed that, Thai PBS made that statement.  The woman was taken to hospital suffering from high blood pressure and later died.

I have asked Thai people why their mothers/fathers/husbands etc. have died and it is not unusual to hear "sick inside" as the answer.  They really have no idea what the cause was AND there is a pretty good chance that that is exactly what the doctor told them!

Where did it say there were no "proper medical personnel" available?

Where did it say that a coffin could not be made to size?

Where did it say that this woman's treatment was mishandled and requires "a proper enquiry?

Yes you can, nothing strange about it. Her height may have had something to do with it but high blood pressure is called the "silent killer" because it often has no warning signs or symptoms and many people do not know they have it.  It is a common and dangerous condition that increases the risk of heart disease and stroke.

   We are not given enough information to know the exact cause of her tragic death.

Hi blood pressure can cause organ damage and also weaken blood vessels which can lead to aneurisms or strokes, just as the previous poster said. Many people here who have high blood pressure think that they can just take a few pills and are all cured. They don't understand that it requires daily medication to keep It under control, not just a couple of pills.

Over 7' tall, surprised some women's basketball team did not sign her up.   HBP (High Blood Pressure) is a very treatable disease.  Sad that no one picked up on this young woman's health issue before it was too late.  RIP

Her height would be the first thing that comes to mind, but "high blood pressure" might be a mistranslation.  I've known some fairly small Thais in good health who when they stand up, get a bit faint because of the sudden change without taking a breath of air first.

 

I remember seeing something on television years ago explaining how giraffes had quite a complex vascular/valve system because they routinely move their head from ground level to tree height.  For a human that doesn't have this it could be troublesome.  Maybe if she was on BP meds already (to increase or decrease it) to obtain an average pressure without it pooling due to gravity (just making this example up), and she suddenly fell to the ground, or suddenly stood up enough to pass out and have an accident in the process, you could still say "high blood pressure" in a 'lost in translation' way and mean that it was a complication of an unusual requirement on the heart.  Some internal plumbing could easily pass its threshold tolerances and blow.

 

That aside, being a farang of regular height and nearly strangling myself on low hanging electrical wires in the street, having to duck to get  through doors, not being able to use the stairs properly because they're not long enough to get the ball of your foot on etc, I can empathise with all the issues she must have had to endure.  Imagine what it must have been like in the school playground with the way kids can be cruel and taunt.

 

I feel for the family.  There's a natural order of things in generational terms, and losing a child must be crucifying.

It is a shame these persons die so young. It seems that her being 7 feet tall was an early death warrant for her. 

 

The tallest person to ever have lived was almost 9 feet tall and died young to, and at age 22. But he was still growing then, so who knows how tall you would have ended up if he lived longer. 

 

He died from a simple infection as he body couldn't fight that off. I guess when the Pituitary Gland starts sending out those high growth hormones, it must effect other parts of the body.

 

So I guess if you are going to try and set a World Record it is better to be the Oldest Person than being the Tallest one.
