BANGKOK: -- Well known celebrity "Tom Modelling" otherwise known as Mr Ratchaporn Uthaitham, 40, has complained to tech cops that he has been libeled on Facebook.

He went with Mr Sakphoom Chaidech, better know as "VJ Pong" of Channel 5, to make their case at the Technology Crime Suppression Division yesterday, reported Daily News.

He said that a post on the Beau Atitapon page defamed him. It suggested that he had swindled a former colleague out of money which is false, he said. The matter concerns a music video.

This he said had caused him to lose face and credibility with a sponsor.

Police intend to summon the poster of the alleged libelous article to get to the bottom of the matter.

From the expression on the policeman's face I'm sure that this complaint will be investigated with all the diligence it deserves.

The defamation laws in thailand are the heart of it's problem with corruption. Regardless of whether the accusation is true or false, the poster has broken the law and can face jail. How can a country ever stop graft when it cant even be discussed?

And to the above poster, yes the police DO pursue defamation cases, because usually the 'defamed' hires an expensive lawyer to do all the legal legwork for them.

"This he said had caused him to lose face..."

Which everyone in Thailand knows takes a major act of cruelty to accomplish this.

Telling tales

Maybe it's me but anything of little consequence, no weight, worthless, no importance; or not worthy of serious notice is considered a tragedy in Thailand that deserves a trip to a cop shop where some little grass decides to get some unfortunate the jail.

When I was younger a clype (informer) was a no-no and a good belt across the ear was duly administered for good measure by any superior explainging to that ........

Sticks & Stones will break your bones but words will never hurt you.

What do you expect, it's Facebook. Grow a skin and learn to ignore.

What is "Facebook?"  Exactly.
