GMMZ Smart Box doesn't save programmes

Featured Replies

I've had a GMMZ Smart Box for about 3 years, more for the wife than me.  Recently, it just died.  Rather than take it for repair, I bought the same model from Lazada for 389 Baht, thinking it would cost me at least that anyway for a repair.  I connected the new box, tuned it in to C band, and saved 228 channels.  However, when the box is put into standby mode or the power is disrupted, I need to reset everything when it is switched on again.  So basically, the new box is just as good as the old box, but doesn't seem to store the saved channels.

Anybody have any idea what the problem could be?  Any help appreciated.

looks like these boxes "auto up"  every time they are powered on

maybe you can set it up not to auto update   or if its set wrongly set the correct auto update parameters as per the FAQ

They should only auto-update when there is a new update available - that was how they worked in the past.  But can not speak for currently as GMM no longer provides a pay service so it may operate differently.  Have mostly PSI tuners currently.

Thanks johng, but I've tried that already; still the same.  Saves channels until put into standby or off, then everything disappears.

Maybe a bad box ??

or do you mean you are manually tuning the channels or maybe re arranging the order of channels and favourites ?

a friend of mine has a PSI  box she  insists on turning it off at the mains every time she finishes watching

and it always "auto updates" upon bootup

The last box did that with no problem, but this new one doesn't want to play the game. I auto tuned it, giving me a total of 228 channels, pressed save, the wheel spun round for a about 5 seconds, then finished.  If I keep the box switched on, I don't have a problem, but that's not ideal.  Plus, we have a regular power dip here, usually 1 or 2 a week, thereby cutting the power to the box.  I'm thinking it may be a bad box. Looks like I might have to get them both repaired; at least I will have a spare box.

Thanks for the info johng.  If you wake up in a cold sweat during the night, and realise that you have the answer, jump straight on the computer while it's still fresh in your mind.

Thanks for the reply, but auto update isn't the problem.  After setting up the box with the channels which are then stored, putting the box in standby or switching the power off results in having to set up everything again when the box is switched back on.

Are you not saying it auto updates each time?  Or have you selected a custom list of channels that is not being recalled and you then have to set up that list again?  Have no idea of later as never did but expect without pay service there may not be any recording of individual units anymore and that might have been required by software?

I'm not sure that "autoupdate" is the correct word.  The software provides the list when setting up, then stores them in the system so they are still available when the box is switched on next time.  They are all "free-to-air" channels, including channels from India and other countries.  I had no problem with the previous box in this aspect, but the new box only stores the channels until the box is put into standby or the power disconnected.  When the box is switched on again, there are no stored channels, so I have to set-up everything again.

That would be the initial install function (although believe if box had not been detected for a set time it also activates that function).  Has your box been registered?

I just connected my White HD unit, which is not normally used now, and it loaded new software (last connected about a week ago).  Each off/on or power fail requires about 30 seconds in "Book" mode before channel 37 becomes active and all stations available.  The normal channel tuning process takes about 5-10 minutes as I recall as required when first set up.  Believe the auto-tune for new channel lineup takes several minutes when required.

What you say is correct, although the normal tuning process only takes about 3 minutes.  I switched the box on yesterday and it loaded new software; after another autotune, everything was still the same - looses the stored channels when turned off.

I have not registered the new box, wasn't aware I needed to, and as far as I know, the guy who installed the first box about 3 years ago, didn't register that one; I checked it was working properly, including standby mode, before he left the house.  I suspect that if the new box wasn't registered, I wouldn't have got a software update yesterday.
