New list of ‘corrupt officials’

BANGKOK:-- A SEVENTH list of officials alleged to be corrupt will be issued soon

 

After a meeting of the National Anti Corruption Committee chaired by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam said officials facing disciplinary action were in general not as senior as people named on previous lists.

The prime minister enforced the all-powerful Section 44 of the interim charter to issue lists of officials alleged to be corrupt to pave way for investigations and possible disciplinary and legal action.

With six orders issued so far, some 237 officials having been suspended or removed from their posts ahead of investigations and possible punishment.

The latest list includes Bangkok Governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra.

 

Wissanu said investigations had been completed in 62 of the 237 cases. Eight out of the 62, ranging from local officials to high ranking ones including director generals, had been fired and 25 were discharged. The rest received less severe penalties including salary cuts, probation and warnings. Eight cases had been handed to the National Anti-Corruption Commission for criminal action.

At yesterday's meeting the coup-installed Anti-Corruption Operation Centre was ordered to coordinate with all ministries in following up corruption allegations in their compounds and expediting cases. Ministries must report back to the centre within 30 days once cases have been sent to them for action.

The centre will then cross-check the inquiry results to ensure fair treatment for all concerned before taking further action, such as criminal investigation and charges being laid, Prayong Priyajit, secretary-general of the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission, said.

No mention of names, no mention of actual 'crimes', no mention of the money stolen, no mention of collusion with businesses or other authority figures, no mention of prison sentences and no mention of assets seizures.

 

Conclusion: No point.

Yes alleged alleged alleged.

Its a bit like being an alleged paedofile. Once your branded and guilty or not that mud will stick with you the rest of your life.

If the government are serious about ending corruption let them publish names.

Names and punishment, not just this stupid nonsense of moved to inactive posts.

Start at the TOP that is where the biggest corruption takes place.

Not just lower level officials just to make it look good.

least they're doing something positive. Corrupt politicians are on notice. good.

Surely it's at least a step in the right direction things will not change overnight it will be lengthy process but it has to start somehow and somewhere

Give them the credit they deserve for starting and addressing the issue, the more highlighted it becomes then maybe more fresh faces will be inclined to join and stand for positions that were previously locked out of by the corruption where they too could now make a difference for the future

Fancy even believing or supporting this lot after what they have done to anyone who voices any opposition to the high and mighty road map.

So over time it's now oh well they're not such a bad lot after all and we believe everything they say about alleged corrupt people.

i wonder how many military names are on there from top to bottom?

Running at over half the people investigated so far, 

would likely mean of the rest( 175 ) another 91 give or take 

are likely to face some sort of penalty, 

corruption alive and well just don,t get caught 

when a purge is on 

The Elite self-monitoring and hiding their own evil corruption is not progress.

Giving out lists of people you don't like.....sounds familiar...

At least when that nutter Duterte in the Philippines comes up with lists of corrupt officials, he reads them out!

It is only a step in their own direction to the demise of many. Who and what this mongrel bunch are about is spelt out in the comment by 'cumgranosalum'. and attested by many others.

Wouldn't be a lot easier to have a list of the incorrupt officials? surly that list would be

a lot shorter to comprehend and deal with.....

Until the names, charges, and punishments are publicly made, this is all handjobby. At this point, nobody cares about what they "allegedly" did, let us know how long they are going to jail, family assets seized, and banned from government work.

I thought it was a requirement in order to be a politician no matter what country you look at.

WHO is compiling these lists! Shrouded in secrecy, then your name suddenly appears on the list? Can anyone smell a witch hunt perhaps?

Will Prayut ever shut up about lists, show us the prosecutions , 

"possible disciplinary and legal action." or possibly not.

I think this is now the fourth list of officials and just what happened about the first ones,     a few sideways moves and that was that.

Is there some form of psychological warfare going on so officials know they're on a list but to what end if no action is taken and being moved to the sin bin for a while doesn't count as proper action for me   ?

doubt anything is being done. this is all just smoke and mirrors. for all we know nothing has been done at all except for some figures being announced. i was thinking these list were being propagated and people had to buy their way off them.

The UK, USA and Australia most certainly do bring charges against corrupt government employees. No UK government official ever asked me for a bribe.  When you visit Australia, did the immigration officer ask you for a bribe  as they did to me in Phuket?

One mans corrupt official is another mans helpful official!

If the list exclude police and military officials, it is not complete.
