Turkish-backed incursion 'liberates' 400 sq km of northern Syria - President Erdogan

A Turkish-backed incursion Syria has liberated a vast swath of land from terrorists, according to Turkey’s president Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Speaking in Ankara, the leader reiterated the importance of protecting Turkey’s border with Syria from ISIL and the Kurdish People’s Protection Units’ (YPG) forces.

He said that Kurdish militants had lied when they said that YPG forces had withdrawn to the east bank of the Euphrates river – a natural barrier between the two countries.

Turkey has long been suspicious of the threat posed by the US-backed Kurdish militants, although Washington says that clashes between the two forces are a cause for deep concern.

Depends on your perspective of terror I suppose, Turkey has its criteria based on its self interest.

Yeah, lots of counties out there fighting terrorists, funny though they all have a different definition of which groups are terrorists though. Seems if they are helping your objectives then they are freedom fighters, if against your objectives then terrorists. Even seems that any terror group that used to be the enemy can also re-badge their name and logo and suddenly become freedom fighters.

Lets just hope that this cynical use of violence never gets used in this part of the world, although it was heading that way at one stage, with the often used colour revolutions...

Turkey went into Syria on false pretenses. They took Jarablus with no fighting because IS were allowed to move out. This will imho end badly for Turkey as they have united several disparate groups against them. The U.S 'strategy' in the region has now taken on tragicomic proportions. Groups of U.S trained and supplied rebels are now fighting each other, and as Rand Paul pointed out all of this was done unconstitutionally.
