EC submits draft act on political parties to charter drafters

Thammarat Thadaphrom

BANGKOK, 10 September 2016 (NNT) – The Election Commission (EC) has already submitted a draft act on political parties to the Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC), according to Election Commissioner Somchai Srisutthiyakorn.

Somchai said the draft organic act regulating the establishment and the existence of political parties has been forwarded to the charter rewrite team.

There are three main aspects to the act including 1) a party must maintain at least 5,000 members and at least one office in each region of Thailand, 2) local offices of a political party must take part in the deliberation and the nomination of party’s candidates for both constituency and party-list elections and that the party is obliged to consult with local offices before announcing or enforcing new policies, and 3) a party can only be dissolved if its existence is deemed a threat to democracy while its members will automatically receive a two-year ban from nominating election candidates.

The Election Commissioner said the new act, once enacted, will strengthen existing and future political parties while encouraging all political parties to express their opinions regarding the contents of the draft act to the CDC.

"a party can only be dissolved if its existence is deemed a threat to democracy while its members will automatically receive a two-year ban from nominating election candidates."

It is indeed a Brave New World we live in.

"The Director explains to the students the process by which humans are grown inside bottles and then conditioned (read: brainwashed) to believe certain moral “truths.” This conditioning, also known as “hypnopaedia” or “sleep-teaching,” instructs the citizens to believe in the value of society over the individual. Each person exists to serve the community. It’s their job to be consumers and workers, which in turn keeps the economy stable and strong. Buy lots of clothes. Use lots of transportation. Do your job."
