Rainmon Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 (edited) I am coming up for renewal of my retirement visa for the first time. Can I use my Thai stock market account as part of the 800,000 baht needed for the visa or do I need to have it in a cash savings type account? Also, I understand now the funds need to be here 3 months prior to my renewal date... If anyone has experience with this area please pm me or post, Thanks! Edited November 25, 2006 by Rainmon
Sir Burr Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 The 800,000 Bt must be seen to have come from outside the country, each and every year. So, no, your stocks cannot be counted as part of the 800,000 bt.
Rainmon Posted November 27, 2006 Author Posted November 27, 2006 So if I have 400,000 in cash now, sell my stocks that equal 300,000, move that to cash, then transfer 100,000 from outside the country for a total of 800,000 this will not suffice. I have to move 800,000 over every year, regardless of how much I currently have in cash? If this is the case, it makes no sense (welcome to Thailand)... Thanks for the input, Rainmon The 800,000 Bt must be seen to have come from outside the country, each and every year. So, no, your stocks cannot be counted as part of the 800,000 bt.
Rainmon Posted November 30, 2006 Author Posted November 30, 2006 does anyone else have experience on this subject, it makes no sense that I have to transfer another 800k here when I already have 500 or 600k here now??? Firefan Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 Since this is a renewal I presume the original 800k was transfered from abroad. Therefore only the top-up (to get back to 800k) needs to come from abroad. If you can prove that you earned the money here in Thailand trading stocks - and paid tax on same, I would think that emmigration would accept that too - as long as the original money was part of the 800k being transfered in from abroad. (hmm..... I can see it now: "you play stocks! That same, same WORK!, Work permit no have!"). Cheers!
