Tourism Minister: Thailand ready to host World Tourism Day

BANGKOK, 19 September 2016 (NNT) – Thailand is now prepared to host the World Tourism Day event, echoing the nation’s support towards equal access to tourism, while the cultural richness of Thailand’s northeastern region will be presented to the participants at the event, says the Tourism Minister.

Minister of Tourism and Sports Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul stated in a press conference regarding the organization of World Tourism Day 2016 under the theme Tourism for All - Promoting Universal Accessibility, that Thailand is fully prepared to encourage universal access to tourism for all people. The Kingdom will take this opportunity as a host nation to promote the country’s tourism capability and the beauty in its Northeastern region to the world.

The Cabinet agreed that Thailand will be hosting the World Tourism Day 2016 in Bangkok and Khon Kaen on 26-29 September 2016 as assigned by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha will be presiding over the opening ceremony in Bangkok, as well as giving a special speech on “Tourism for All: Thailand’s role in the global stage”, followed by leading delegates from 157 countries on a visit to the Northeastern province of Khon Kaen during 28-29 September 2016.

Thank you ladies and gentlemen, you're a wonderful audience.

Now my last hit song ' Would I Lie to You ? '

Tourism day? Will this mean lots of people celebrating in the streets like son cran?

Great,.Every mugger's thug's pickpockets, sexual molester's gold snatching ladyboy's,and every other  vile kind of creatures dream.

Will it also include getting doused in water or beer,or any other liquid to hand?

I would think that walking street would be most appropriate for the Pattaya celebration.

Oh and  bomber's dont forget the bomber's.:partytime2:

A montage of films clips and photos of all the recent Thai tourist tragedies would be a great opener for this gala(h) occasion.

Disabled please note this is for fit healthy people unless you are coming here for Medical help as there are LIMITED IF ANY activities the DISABLED can take part in. Due to Thai insensitivity.

try getting on a bus or train in a wheelchair. taxis no-way.

Most public buildings are steps very few slopes at all if any.

"The Kingdom will take this opportunity as a host nation to promote the country’s tourism capability and the beauty in its Northeastern region to the world. "

The Northeastern region is the only place they can bring the delegation, since it is the only area that hasn't been made completely unvisitable due to the hordes of Chinese buses that have descended on every worthwhile site in the rest of the country.

The delegation could get invaluable insight into how not to let a fixation on quantity over quality ruin your natural resource.

Bruce, I think you need a wider vision of Thailand. There are vast tracts of this country that have been left unspoiled by bus loads of tourists. Naturally the prime tourist areas of Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Kanchanaburi, Hua Hin, Pattaya and Phuket, Samui etc ahve been overwhelmed, but many areas of the country including where I live, have been left in peace. Perhaps a Chinese invasion of Korat, Phimai, Surin and the Mekong towns in the east need awakening.

That was my point exactly, but I should have used prime instead of worthwhile.

When I have friends visit, I always suggest an alternate tour, skipping the main areas that have been ruined. Unfortunately, even the alternate sites are being "discovered" by the hordes, as they have completely saturated the main sites, and need to find new places to herd them to.

And oh, watch out for those potholed pavements, deserving of the slogan: COME TO THAILAND FOR A GREAT TRIP!

Miss Kobkarn your enthusiasm is commendable and you are trying your best to tackle the issues relating to tourism with vigour. hope other agencies also cooperate with you with equal interest.

Good that Thailand doesn't have any terrorist trying to disrupt tourism...

A plea to the Minister: Do not drive them around in cars. buses or any form of road transport nor by boat. You may not end up with many delegates!

Or do you have different rules for hi so?  :whistling:
