Anyone been to Kuching for a weekend?

Featured Replies

Looking at going to Kuching leaving on a Friday and coming back Monday.  Has anyone been there that can comment on things to do outside of the city and also the nightlife in the city?  It looks to be a lot more laid back then Peninsular Malaysia which is a good thing.

It was a few years ago when I was there, the highlight was the Orangutan sanctuary,

the dining was not as good as Chiang Mai, Night Life was with my family,so dont

know (if thats what you were meaning),I think a weekend would be long enough.

have a good time

I quite liked the city.  Try the local laksa!  Wonderful.  I stayed at the Holiday Inn right on the river.  Some nightlife around, but I wasn't really looking for that.  I also stayed a few days at some hotel out by the sea.  All in all, it was nice!

note wheather! rainy season is very, very wet there.

I did not see much real difference between Kcg and mainland MY-but of course Penang etc is much more fast-living. MOst ''sights'' in town are renovated old british colonial buildings-and town has a kind of quite modern flair for stylish design. Its not as cheap as mainland and beyond that tiny centre and the nature parks quite far away around, there is nothing really to see nor do. I did not note any nite life beyond the usual Malay pasar malam=night market and some strolling along the nicely paved and landscaped river promenade.

Starting from BKK-or for that matter anywhwere in TH, one has to change in KUL/KLIA2 (using AirAsia) or via SIN-SQ+KRIS (thus expensive)-you loose 2 days in the transit. For just a weekend I would not bother.
