Opinions sought on controversial ‘conflict of interest’ draft bill

BANGKOK: -- THE GOVERNMENT will ask concerned agencies and the public to offer input about a new draft bill, which will result in punitive measures being taken against officials and their families who are found to have benefited from conflict of interest with the state, Deputy PM Wissanu Krea-ngam said yesterday.

 

For the sake of thoroughness, Wissanu said the government will disseminate the draft among the agencies and the public, so they can say whether the measures proposed are too heavy or too lenient.

Conflict of Interest, how topical !

We can be sure that if such a bill is passed the wording will be vague enough to allow lots of room for maneuver and its use very flexible indeed depending on who is in the spotlight.

Will there be the transparency required in government (including military) contracts and in the finances of officials to enforce this law?  Or will people who report conflicts of interest be charged with defamation?

Yes absolutely correct, all investigations will be done internally, all those found guilty will be our political opponents and business competitor's.  Any one that complains will have defamation laws hurled at them and don't forget we are the good people...

 

 

You cannot enact laws that go against the grain of Thai culture...

"Ol bright eyes appearing to be doing some good.....but as previously mentioned, there will be ways around this law for their own protection.......

Its not about 'conflict of interest', it should be it shouldn't have got to this stage in the first place. They need to protect themselves from getting to the point were conflict even arises. Case in point, the Nephew and the missus.
