Cloggie
At my house I have several Raspberry Pi's and one Arduino they work fine until 220V stops working.... The Arduino will work again when the 220V comes back but most of the time the SD card of the Raspberry Pi is corrupted and I need to reformat them again. Yes, I can install a small UPS with every Raspberry Pi and Arduino but to have a UPS with all CPU's will be expensive and overdone... If possible it needs to work for a few hours as that long it can take - especially now during the raining season - before the power comes back Anybody in Thailand had the same problem before, solved it and would like to share it with me? Thanks. Edited September 23, 2016 by Cloggie
johng
Yes the power cuts especially the brown outs are very bad for electronics and the PI seems rather sensitive to power supply problems. http://raspi-ups.appspot.com/en/hardware.jsp and http://raspi.tv/2013/testing-rs-5200-mah-usb-lithium-battery-pack-as-a-ups or DIY from parts http://www.repairhub.co.uk/content/resources/raspberry-pi-battery-backup I'm using RS 5000mAh Lithium Polymer PB-A5200 634 baht but out of stock http://th.rs-online.com/web/p/power-banks/7757508/?searchTerm=775-7508&relevancy-data=636F3D3126696E3D4931384E525353746F636B4E756D6265724D504E266C753D656E266D6D3D6D61746368616C6C26706D3D5E5C647B337D5B5C732D2F255C2E2C5D5C647B332C347D2426706F3D313426736E3D592673743D52535F53544F434B5F4E554D4245522677633D4E4F4E45267573743D3737352D3735303826 also here http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/power-banks/7757508/?searchTerm=7757508&relevancy-data=636F3D3126696E3D4931384E525353746F636B4E756D6265724D504E266C753D656E266D6D3D6D61746368616C6C26706D3D5E5C647B367D247C5E5C647B377D247C5E5C647B31307D2426706F3D313426736E3D592673743D52535F53544F434B5F4E554D4245522677633D4E4F4E45267573743D37373537353038267374613D3737353735303826 or TeckNet? johng
The other thing to do to try stoping the sd card corruption is mount the file system as read only not always practical though.
Cloggie
Thanks for the information. Running your Pi / Arduino from a battery pack is not a good idea in my opinion, simply because the battery pack is not made for that - it works yes, but it will kill your battery pack! Found this one: https://www.modmypi.com/raspberry-pi/breakout-boards/pi-modules/ups-pico Mount the SD card is a solution but not in my case as I run a database on the SD card, I know also not a good idea :-) Still need to find a better solution, will post it here if I find it. boyzfunhouse
What kind of database that you use on your RPi? I suggest Beaglebone Black. It has 4GB eMMC on board and also has micro sdcard slot too.
Cloggie
Thanks - will have a look at that one and some alternative PI's as well. Unfortunately my Raspberry Pi passed away - RIP It will boot, work for two minutes and then it will switch off itself :-(
johng
Just in case anyone has a need for a cheap Raspberry Pi UPS solution http://www.ebay.com/itm/5V-UPS-Power-Diy-Board-Charger-Step-up-DC-DC-Converter-Module-3-7V-Li-ion-LiPo-/282352753274?hash=item41bd891a7a:g:VgIAAOSw4DJYmTkz 5V UPS Power Diy Board Charger & Step-up DC DC Converter Module 3.7V Li-ion LiPo arrives much smaller than I expected (tiny solder pads) and I slung together with scrap parts and old Samsung phone battery a USB powerbank/charger/UPS that works with the Raspberry PI... most importantly the power is not interrupted when pulling the mains plug ( like most powerbanks do ) they also have a discharge protection module but I didn't order one http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-7V-4-2V-18650-Li-ion-Lithium-Battery-Charger-Over-Discharge-Protection-Module-/272602721327? Excuse my crappy soldering
