Fishermen Released by Thai Authorities

Featured Replies

Thai authorities yesterday released 55 Cambodian fishermen, including two children, after they were arrested on Sunday for allegedly fishing illegally in Thai waters.  Vun Narith, one of the fishermen, claimed the Thai authorities intentionally released them in the early hours of yesterday morning in a bid to cover up their being detained in the first place.

He said they were released Monday at midnight and only arrived back in Cambodia’s Koh Kong province at 2am.  “Probably they want to cover up the story. They told us to leave the area before sunrise, otherwise we had to be careful of being arrested again by their forces. And we only arrived back on land at about 2am,” Mr. Narith told Khmer Times

He added that the men had been fishing in the same spot for years, but the most Thai authorities often did was take some of their fish. They had never been detained or been asked to leave, he said.  “Normally, when they come near us, we are not surprised. This time we did not know they were going to catch us because previously they would approach us, but only to check our boats and ask us for fish,” he said.

ThaiVisa, c'est aussi en français

ThaiVisa, it's also in French

...wow....

...seems that lately many foreigners can relate to questionable treatment at the hands of 'authorities'.....

....so much for the 'welcome'.......

So not denying they were in Thai waters, just saying they had been fishing in this area for years. :whistling:

Not sure why I am getting double posts.
