Deputy PM: No more stimulus measures this year

BANGKOK,29 September 2016(NNT) - Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak on Wednesday urged executives of the Ministry of Finance to expedite reform. He also confirmed that there is no need to impose more measures to stimulate the economy.

The deputy PM instructed the Fiscal Policy Office to be the main agency in laying out fiscal policies such as the policy to help senior people. As for the State Enterprise Policy Office, Mr. Somkid asked the office to reform state enterprises for higher efficiency and appoint suitably qualified people as members of state enterprise boards.

The deputy premier also instructed three tax collection departments to adjust tax structures so that the government would collect taxes more efficiently.

Mr. Somkid added that he had a positive outlook for the Thai export sector and urged government agencies and entrepreneurs to cooperate in developing Thai products for export. He expressed his confidence that the Thai economy would expand by more than 3% this year.

Sounds like they are running out of cash, no more stimulus measures and more tax collection needed.

No more stimulus measures and collect taxes more efficiently.

If more government contracts were awarded on merit and not corruption there would be a lot more money in the pot.

If 30-40% of all government projects didn't go into the pockets of individuals, there would be a lot more money in the pot.

Yes, claim victory instead of stating the obvious truth.

Sounds like a girl friend I had here. She said 1000 baht or no more stimulus.

  • To date Prayut's government has spent less than 1% for its economic stimulus on mega projects.
  • Household debts have reached their highest level in nine years.
  • Exports will likely remain in negative territory for the next four years.
  • The Prayut government has decided not to promote foreign investment until the country has stability.

The decsion not to impose more measures is more likely because nothing more can be done to boost the economy. Lack of further action is not really a choice but a reality that Prayut's economic plan can no longer be effective.

Just to be sure DPM Somkid should advise DMP Pawtwit of this ,  that crazy fool is just as likely to announce a stimulus package for school teachers, goat herders and lion tamers next week...............................................................:coffee1:

Apart from the bit about his having "confidence" that the Thai economy will expand by more than 3% this year, I think that a bit of realism is in the pipeline as we are nearing the end of the calendar year. With three quarters of the year having already gone, there is not a lot of room to manouvre and some earlier optimistic forecasts are now being toned down.

Well there's no need,  they've had their referendum.

Obviously mutual stimulation is not working  between the Ministry of Finance and the  Fiscal Policy Office and they are not in rhythm to achieve the desired outcome.

A great BS wrap up about exports and entrepreneurs and the economy to conclude the story. This is almost as embarrassing as the police with their goofy traffic flags and signs on sticks.

They certainly have tossed money around endlessly since about a month after they took power. Sounds like they are about to go over the hill and there are certain events, not New Year, that could require massive amounts of cash to keep up with traditions coming along the way. These fools may have already put Thailand into a jam.

Hey I'm a goat herder

He will keep the baht strong though as he continues to invest in foreign lands.

Wondered when all the billions for all the mega-projects announced the past couple of years would run out.
