Marriage Visa/wife's Income

Featured Replies

Hi fellow TV members,

I'd appreciate some advice on my visa situation please.

I've had the marriage to thai visa for about 5 years. There's never been a problem before as we've always had the cash in the bank.

I have an income of only 35,000 a month for some part-time work.

My wife has an income of more than 10 times that. Should my visa be ok still...

....or should I get some more income just to be safe. I could easily do this with my wife paying me a salary. Would this be ok? If not woould it be ok for her father to pay me.

I work without a WP which is illegal I know but very safe considering who I work for.

You cannot count your income in Thailand with no wp. The salary your wife gets will be fine for the extension of stay permit.

If you have been getting a yearly extension based on 400,000 Baht in the bank you can still do this.

GET A WORK PERMIT. You will get into big trouble if you do not.

I guess it's easier then to keep doing it this way.

The lack of WP is no problem - I get the cash in hand and no one knows I work apart from the guy I work for. I can do it a home too.

Yes

and

Up to you

I don't have a work permit but I do have a letter from the US consulate that says I have a pension of over 40,000 baht a month. That got me my extension.

I am sure a recently departed PM felt secure also. If you work in Thailand there should be a work permit involved; regardless of who you might be working for. Winds can change quickly some times.

The new rules do not require support so your wifes income can be the means to your visa extensions of stay in the future.
