unknown pain all over hip and leg, any recommendation which doctor she should go to?

My mum has had this pain for over 3 years and not knowing what caused it. She has been complaining about her left side of her leg start from her hip to her foot. Some doctor said something to do with her lower spine but it doesn't seem to be her spine causes it, more like her nerve.

Her pain went from 2 to 10 at an instant when she reaches over to grab something from her customer at work and pain went wild then. Now she cannot stand up straight. By looking from behind, her hip seems to be lopsided and tilt over to her right side but her actual pain is on the left leg.

I hope I am explaining well enough and hope somebody else who has had or known anyone with this kind of condition before.

Please recommend any specialise doctor, hopefully in Bangkok because I am taking my aunty to see a vertigo doctor and my mum is going too, so i could take both of them to see any specialised doctor my aunty and my mum.

She's got pain for over three years, you've got the ability to use the Internet and then asking on an online forum what the cause for her pain could be?

BTW, are you explaining it in a way that no doctor in this world could make a serious diagnosis. Please have a look:

   Find the right orthopedist.

Piriformis syndrome is the result of an inflammation in this muscle that presses on the sciatic nerve. The pain is often more localized in the hip and buttock where general sciatic pain tends to radiate more down the leg. Common Causes: Repetitive motion is the most common cause of inflammation in the piriformis.

The pain could well be from the lower spine, with a nerve being compressed as a result of degeneration of the intervertebral disks.  When this is the problem the pain is not felt in the spinal area itself but rather radiates down the leg.

Or it could be degeneration of the hip joint itself.

It is a little difficult to refer since the orthopedic doctors who specialize in spine are different from those who specialize in hip issues. But since another doctor apparently thought it was spinal in origin -- and also because this doctor is very good - I suggest she see Prof. Wicharn Yingsakmongkol. He is at Bangkok Christian Hospital (not far from St Louis Hosp) Saturdays only   http://www.bch.in.th/en/doctor-th-4/surgery/item/696-doc31.html

It is also possible to see him at BNH Hospital (close by both St Louis and BCH) Monday - Friday evenings and Saturday mornings but will cost more there https://www.bnhhospital.com/en/find_doctor/detail/256

If he thinks the problem is the spine he might advise an MRI so I suggest seeing him early in your trip as you can then save money by getting the MRI done at an imaging center, it will cost more to do it in the hospital. If he thinks it is not a spinal problem but rather the hip you may ask him to recommend a hip specialist.

Hi lostinisaan: You're spot on. I have googled Piriformis syndrome and Sciatica and that is exactly what my mum has. Any good doctor recommendation in Bangkok for my mum here? Im wanting to take her to see a doctor very soon cos she cannot keep up with the pain any longer.

Please advice me any good doctor to see in Bangkok, I would really appreciated very much.

Sciatica is not a disease or cause, it is a symptom, it simply describes the type of pain your mother has. It is often due to nerve compression from the lower spine.

Pirirformis syndrome is a diagnosis of exclusion i.e. must first exclude spinal or hip problem.

Please see my prior post for suggested doctor.

you could try the exercises for piriformis stretching I believe. but, that may not be the definitive approach, even assuming that is the issue.

often these problems can be very complicated,  my parent, spent years trying to figure out theirs, and never did,  trohcanteric bursitis, etc, finally had a micro disectomy, which didn't help, also a year of physio, etc.

try some acupuncture :)

Yes exactly the same situation as my mum. She had tried so many doctors, acupunctures, massages down her waist and legs but seems like helpless. None of it last more than a few days.

I am wanting to get her to see a specialise doctor in bangkok but not sure which is the best doctor and the best doctor specialty to see.
