BANGKOK: -- THE UNITED NATIONS Development Programme (UNDP) has the capacity to assist the Thai government to strengthen political organs, including parties, as well as advise on general election arrangements, but would only do so if asked, its representative said yesterday.

Martin Hart-Hansen, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative said the agency has a clear mandate to focus its work on development and be politically neutral, although it has realised that Thailand is now in a transition and needs reforms in several areas, including politics.

The UN has no need to worry as they'll never be asked, LoS doesn't need advice on anything and least of all from an organisation that isn't even a relative.

Be fair, even if the Thai mindset did change and saw seeking advice positively, would you want to take any advice from the over paid, over qualified, academic never actually worked numpties that populate the UN?

The UN is a joke turf them all out of that big building and turn it into a giant house of ill repute. At least then taxpayers would get some kind of financial return. I have watched this toothless tiger for 40 years. It is a standing joke. Turn out the lights and say "Goodnight Dick"

The thai mindset is more accustomed to being told how to act and the military has been very effective in delivering its message of compliance  It matters little how professional, experienced or effective any foreign body might be.

Only to being told how to act by a fellow Thai who they consider to be more senior in some respect.

As for foreigners - total irrelevant what they say.
