NAKHON PATHOM: -- An ancient wooden market, Talad Bang Luang, a tourist landmark in Nakhon Pathom province was engulfed by a huge fire this morning, forcing traders and vendors to flee in panic.

The wooden shop house market Ror Sor 122 is a unique old market where most of the 100 shophouses are wooden houses built over a hundred years ago.

It was not immediately known the cause of the fire but the fire spread quickly because of the wooden materials.

So what fire precautions or alarms were in place and were they checked regularly.

And given that the buildings were constructed from wood a century agao and now very dry and would burn quickly and would create a very dangerous situation for both the vendors and visitors , what fire fighting equipment and good access to water etc., was installed permanently and checked regularly.

Just wondering if this is another case of various government / local government officials asleep at the wheel or just simply derelict in regard to their obvious responsibilities?

I thought it was only the other day when the Prime Minister put out a big plug to visit "must-visit markets" which could well be death traps.Tourists need to be aware their lives are at risk going to these places. Best they bring with them fire retardant clothing and have a personal fire extinguisher before entering these markets.

Guess some developer has plans for this land

...due for renovation.....???
