Motorcycle + sidecar

Featured Replies

I am buying a used motorcycle with a removable sidecar.  This motorcycle hasn't been licensed in over a year.

I know I will have to get the motorcycle inspected, insured, and licensed (I have done this before with a used motorcycle).

Do I have to get the sidecar inspected, insured, and licensed?

I seem to remember reading a while back (on here) that the sidecars are not strictly legal, hence when the bike need a visit to DLA, the sidecar is usually removed.
With that in mind, I would 'suggest' there is no such thing as inspection/licensing.

Sidecar motorcycles are legal, if they’re registered as sidecar motorcycles. Motorcycles with removable sidecar are by definition not legal.

A company in Pattaya called Ozimoto (http://www.ozimoto.com) can convert a 2-wheeler into 2-wheeler with sidecar legally (need to be re-registered and tested for road safety).
