After two years of manhunt, narcotics police have finally arrested Laota Sanee, an alleged major drug trafficker of the Golden Triangle.

Pol Maj-Gen Sommai Kongvisaisook, acting commissioner of narcotics police, disclosed on Tuesday that Laota was apprehended along with 13 other suspects in Mae Ai district of Chiang Mai today.

The arrest of Laota and his men followed a sting operation in which undercover police, posing as buyers, offered to buy 20 kgs of crystal meth worth about 10 million baht from Laota’s gang and subsequent police raids.

Pol Maj-Gen Sommai said that it was very difficult for police to approach Laota because he was always surrounded by many Hmong tribesmen until Wednesday when police managed to nab him.

He said if Laota is allowed to go on with his illicit drug business, the latter would one day become a politician because he has many followers among his Hmong tribesmen and also money.

Amazing Thailand

Sieze and sell or destroy all of his properties, jail him for life as far south as they can find a cell for him, ( far away from his partners in crime) Make sure there is no bail, and no chance to escape.

Handle his henchmen the same way and get the names of BIB and others  who have protected and worked for these parasites for so long.

I think the policeman may have given a good description (income from drug manufactor, transport, and sales ) of how many of the politicians found the way of obtaining their position, money and influence in this part of Thailand.

Just dont let him escape or put up bail to walk out of the clutches of justice as happens so many times.

Been here 30+ years and was amazed in the first 5, but no longer, from looking at who is who in the political scene...

Tell it like it is,  does that mean other Politicians have gained their status through illicit ways.more than likely I would wager.

....Alleged! Not found guilty after trial with evidence..  You sound like someone with their unlawful murders of the accused some years back....

Didn't he recently miraculously walk from another drug case stretching back decades? Thailand needs to sort out its criminal justice system as a matter of urgency. Oh, wait, who does it benefit....

"Laota blamed Thaksin for labelling him as a drug kingpin and putting him in jail for four years before the court freed him."

Dear me, everyone is at it now. But, but Thaksin!

I thought you had to have a degree to become a politcian.

What is his degree in? 'How to make ,sell, and profit from illegal substances?

Bht 500 per g for "Ice"?

...yet....only 'alleged'.......

...they know of him...his gang....his movements for years.....

...jeez...

The BIB can be so brazen in disregard to orders, enforcement, interpertation of law, inventing their own translation of law, etc that many hate them, many fear them, many join them in corrupt business, etc

Thailand really needs to change and upgrade their breeding stock pool which provides many of the government employee parasites who strut around like a randy buffalo or a elephant in musk. Both are going to screw someone or something, make a mess and cause breakage while chasing another bag of gold.

Oh boy, they must be so pissed at him now...

What's the point of the photo in posting #12? Do I really need to see a close-up of some guy's chest? Relevance?

After they denied the charges and quickly stuffed the brown envelopes. He will never face charges.

Went couple of times to his coffee shop right next to petrol station mentioned in report.

Usually he just sits there relaxing and observing visitors.
