Thai people are furious that some traders - many of them opportunistic con artists - are fleecing the grieving public for black shirts.

This comes after the trade ministry issued warnings that factories and shops ripping off the public could face fines of up to 140,000 baht and prison terms of up to seven years.

Despite the warnings reporters have been bombarded with complaints from both Bangkok and the provinces. It was said that many people are charging 500-600 baht for clothing worth only 99 - 150 baht.

People are urged to call 1569 to report violations.

Many traders are not regular sellers of clothing but opportunistic miscreants setting up stalls then, after making a pile of money, moving on to another place to avoid getting caught.
