BANGKOK:-- The Bureau of the Royal Household has sought cooperation from the police to warn mourners not to light candles near the walls of the Grand Palace, noting that the practice is inappropriate and not in accordance with the tradition of mourning and paying respect in a Royal funeral ceremony.

Smokes from the candles have blemished the walls of the Grand Palace, it was reported.

Some groups of people have illegally announced in the social media urging mourners to bring with them white candles and yellow flowers to pay respect to the late HM the King at the Grand Palace.

Meanwhile, thousands of mourners gathered in front of Visetchaisri gate of the Grand Palace before dawn with many of them spending the night at Sanam Luang, to get into the palace ground to pay respect to a portrait of HM the King. The palace is open to public from 8.30 am to 4 pm.

One of the mourners, Mr Thanapat Panklip, told Thai PBS that his family left Chon Buri province Saturday night in order to be able to get into the palace today to pay respect to their beloved king before his portrait which is put up at the Sahathai Samakhom pavilion.
