Dying fabric black - how good will it work

I see on TV that they are setting up places to dye your old clothes black

I am just wondering how good this will work , will the black dye "stick" to the fabric or will it wash out the first time ?

will it bleed thru if you sweat ?

I just do not understand how one dye can do cotton,  cotton/poly mix , polyester , silk , nylon etc

Or was this another "quick fix" that was not thought thru before doing it ?

I remember seeing itinerant dyers' going around the villages, they only died to black, for customers attending funerals. So yes, they know what they are doing I presume and modern dyes which can be bought are easy to use.

I don't recommend it. I used to dye shirts a lot as a kid (tie-dye, etc). It bleeds, it fades, you can never wash it with anything else. Must be hand washed alone for the rest of its short life.

But it only needs to last for (less than) one year.

it really matters when you wash it with other items that are not black.......

if it is not colorfast the other stuff could turn grey....

I know when we were kids and you put something red in with your underwear  you ended up with Pink underwear ......and laughed out of gym class :)
