October 18, 20169 yr I see on TV that they are setting up places to dye your old clothes black I am just wondering how good this will work , will the black dye "stick" to the fabric or will it wash out the first time ? will it bleed thru if you sweat ? I just do not understand how one dye can do cotton, cotton/poly mix , polyester , silk , nylon etc Or was this another "quick fix" that was not thought thru before doing it ?
October 18, 20169 yr I remember seeing itinerant dyers' going around the villages, they only died to black, for customers attending funerals. So yes, they know what they are doing I presume and modern dyes which can be bought are easy to use.
October 19, 20169 yr I don't recommend it. I used to dye shirts a lot as a kid (tie-dye, etc). It bleeds, it fades, you can never wash it with anything else. Must be hand washed alone for the rest of its short life.
October 19, 20169 yr If you buy a decent dye with a color lock in additive it will not bleed out when wearing it you will lose a but of color on first wash but then it will remain the color you dye it. Wether the dye they are going to use is color fast is another question

I know when we were kids and you put something red in with your underwear you ended up with Pink underwear ......and laughed out of gym class :)
October 21, 20169 yr I also don't understand how cotton and nylon can be dyed with the same dye. Also you need a fixator after dying, that's how we did it in the past. And use much salt.
October 21, 20169 yr My college and another in town is doing this now at the front gate area. Black is not the best colour to be wearing in this climate but thank God it is the cool season soon.
