Outbreak of RSV in Korat - many children hospitalized

NAKHON RATCHASIMA: -- A doctor has given advice online as an outbreak of Respiratory Syncytial Virus has hit many children in Nakon Ratchasima province.

RSV is a fairly common lung disease especially in the rainy season. Its symptoms are fever. It can be serious to infants and old people in particular, reports Daily News.

Dr Jirarut Chomcheuy said on his Facebook page (BigJira Praise) that ignorance of the disease is widespread.

After a picture was posted of a one month old child with the infection he said that the main problem was that parents were ignorant.

People need to realize that close proximity to siblings or others with the disease can result in the virus being passed on.

While it was true that it was more prevalent in the rainy season that  was only part of the problem. The main way to prevent it is to keep the vulnerable away from those who are infected.

Nine out of ten ICU beds at a Korat hospital were filled with people suffering the effects of the virus. Sufferers needed respirators.

The disease can last for a week and there is no vaccine available to treat it.

Aha! So you'd not heard of it either, eh?

Never heard of that before. learned something new.

Me neither. You live and learn (hopefully).

How come they didn't try to cover up this one?

One of the most common Pediatric Upper Respiratory Diseases. Aprox. 95% of children have been infected with it by age 2.  It can also be transmitted to adults and is a major problem in Geriatric Medicine.

I mean.... an outbreak is usually concealed

and denied at first until the evidence becomes

overwhelming and undeniable.

Ah doctor Google.  Fascinating.  Would you Google,  Concealed Epidemic Outbreaks in Thailand?  Or Out Break Cover Ups?  Can you just give one example. I'm having a hard time getting started with the search.  You've really got my interest on this topic...

USA and other countries make Thailand's corruption, ineptness or whatever else you guys like to "rag on Thailand about" look like Romper Room.

You guys really don't get it do you.  Sad really...  but kind of funny at the same time.
