PHUKET: -- Police have arrested two suspects for their part in the public slaying of Sakol Srisompotch, President of the Patong Tuk-Tuk Club, who was shot dead in his tuk-tuk in Kathu in the early hours of last Tuesday (Oct 25).

Four other suspects, including the gunman and the getaway driver, remain at large, Kathu Police Deputy Chief Investigator Lt Col Amponwat Seangreung told The Phuket News.

Mr Sakol, 58, was found dead in the cab of his tuk-tuk at about 3am last Tuesday in front of the Phuket Villa housing estate on Phra Phuket Kaew Rd in Kathu. The tuk-tuk had come under repeated fire at close range.

Wattana “Dam” Nawakeaw, 38, was taken into custody after a warrant for his arrest was issued on Friday (Oct 28), Col Amponwat said.

“The warrant was issued on evidence presented by Kathu Police showing the involvement of two of six suspects involved the crime. The evidence included CCTV footage and witness statements,” he said.

Wattana faces charges of conspiracy to murder, conspiracy to illegally obtaining a firearm, and conspiracy to bringing a gun into a public area without permission, ), Col Amponwat noted.

Whilst this seems to be a quick arrest, the reality is (as Col Amponwat explained), “Mr Sakol also had previously filed a complaint with police that Mr Wattana was using illegal tuk-tuks to serve tourists in Patong...Mr Wattana was arrested in September this year...We believe that this inspired Mr Wattana to plan to murder Mr Sakol with Tong”.

If this is the case, then (yet again) we are witnessing Thailand's "non-reactive" policing in action !!!

Nice one,the streets of Phuket  will be a safer place with a few less robbing, cheating, murdering thugs.its the only way to do business when there's so much money involved.the same as the drug trade.

Only safe till some more low life vermin take up the vacancies

It appears the qualification process to become a driver here in Phuket is extremely low to non existent. Are there really any checks (background, security, criminal, dirvers compentency etc.) at all before these guys hand in some paperwork and get their green or yellow plates.

Quite scary to think that these types of people are serving the public.

I believe the post is talking about Thailand and not the home country of another. Focus eludes me when I fail to wear my common-sense glasses.
