BANGKOK: -- The Expressway Authority of Thailand (Exat) and the  Department of Highways today signed a memorandum of agreement that will allow motorists to use one single card, either Easy Pass or M-Pass cards on seven expressways and two motorways, starting after midnight tonight.

The signing of the agreement was presided over by Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith and witnessed by executives of Exat, Department of Highways, and Krungthai Bank.

Easy Pass card issued by the Exat enables motorists to automatically pay tolls on the Bangkok expressway system comprising of seven expressways comprising Chalerm Mahanakhon, Chalongrat (Ram Intra-At Narong), Srirat, Kanchanaphisek (Bang Phli – Suksawat), Buraphavithi (Bang Na – Chonburi), Udon Rathaya (Bang Pa-in – Pak Kret), and Srirat-outer ring road.

M Pass is issued by the Department of Highways for use on two motorways, No 9 from Bang Pa-in to Bang Phil and No 7 from Bangkok to Chonburi.

And this will be released with no glitches, bugs or complaints as usual!

If all goes well nothing much will happen and it will all go unnoticed. On the other hand if things go badly there is the the potential for all hell to break loose. The interesting aftermath of that will be......who gets the blame and who gets left standing when the participating experts scurry and hide?

Hurray, finally about time.

If we are not careful the Thai National card will be available soon for use on all the railways and the tollways and busses and taxies and 7/11's and...........oh well maybe not that soon.

It's a teeny tiny step in the long march to the 21st century with regard to tolls and highways.  Every time my partner and I go to Bangkok we always get stuck in a miles long traffic jam on one of the expressways--all to pay, I think, 10 BAHT!  Madness. Of course that is just one of a number of tolls--every time you finally get back up to speed BAM another miles long traffic jam to the next toll booth. We do have an M Pass but we usually still have to creep along at walking pace for around 40 to 45 minutes before we can even get to the M Pass lane.  Doesn't seem to matter what time of the day, either--it's always bad.  Maybe we should try 3AM.   I don't know how the poor Bangkokians put up with it day after day.
