Russian Ruble Thai Baht Exchange Rate

Featured Replies

If i am doing the math correctly the Russians are losing money coming to Thailand in huge amounts.  If this is correct. They are either super rich and have money to blow. Or they are up to no good here making money with the Russian mob or whatever. Can anyone please explain how they are able to survive here. How are they able to open a business in Pattaya or Phuket ?

I think if you check the numbers, less Russians are coming since the Ruble collapsed. And less are now opening businesses or buying property. Lots already own a condo or a business from when the ruble was up, so the current value has little effect on them. Those that do come now spend less and stay for less time.

Me too. The Brits will be in the same boat soon... though not quite half, the pound is edging that way to what it was to the baht 10 years ago.

So if a Russian does not have a condo for example and they are renting lets say a home in Hua Hin. How can they survive here if if the exchange rate is so bad ? If i am doing the math correctly the Thai Baht is worth more than the Russian Ruble.

The Russians tend to rent very low price propertys ,and now quite a few are not paying their rents .

That is my point. If the Russian Ruble is worth less than the Thai Baht. How are they able to have long term visas that requried a minimum of $7,000 U.S. dollars in their bank accounts? Saw a group of three last night enter a Thai resturant. I was shocked that they would lower themselves to that standard. Of course the Thais had no idea what they wanted. After a twenty minute song and dance one points to another table and wants chicken and rice. The other two noses go up and out the door. Return five minutes later with bags of beer and potato chips to sit with their friend. They all look dodgy as hell and i have seen them in my area for over a year. So where is all the money coming from if the Ruble is so low? Are they just hiding here without legal visas just avoiding getting near a border? Can anyone answer this question ? So for example $1 U.S. dollar equals about 30 Thai baht about the same for a bowl of soup. How much does it cost a Russian?

the cost for a Russian is 30 Thai BHT and the cost for a Japanese is the same although the Japanese Yen is worth only a fraction of the Thai Baht.

There are fewer Russians than before their currency crisis, understandably. But there are many wealthy Russians for whom the currency is less of a problem, especially if they were investing in dollar and euro properties, stocks, etc before the crisis.

1 ruble is around .55 baht. average weekly wage in Russia is around 9,000 rubles, or 4,900 Baht.
