Southernmost residents told not to panic from recent spate of attacks

BANGKOK: -- People in the Deep South were told not to panic but to cooperate with authorities in helping track down the perpetrators who staged a series of attacks in Songkhla, Pattani and Narathiwat provinces late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning, said government spokesman Lt-Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said Thursday.

He asked the public to have confidence in the government, saying that authorities were collecting evidences, including CCTV footages, which could help identifying the perpetrators, believed to be southern militants, and their eventual arrests.

He noted that the attacks were not widespread, but appeared to concentrate on certain spots. Nevertheless, he said the military would step up security to ensure safety for the people.

I'm sure they all feel very safe now.

Government advice: just die without panicking

Yes, they're being told "from Bangkok".

Shades of Kevin Bacon...

Prayuth asked a guy to take care of the south ( don't remember his name)...This guy seems to not be appreciated at all by the separatists and no doubt they let the "government" knows about this as well.

Panic will only ensue when the rebels come knocking on the gates of Bangkok.

It might be Gen. Akanit Muansawat, a member of the national Legislative Council and advisor to the national Security Council, who is close to NCPO chief and Prime Minister Prayuth and head of the government's peace talks negotiation team. Said BNR spokesman, “He [Gen. Akanit] has an arrogant attitude and referred to Patani Freedom Fighters as jone khaek [Muslim bandits] ..."

Or it might be Secretary-General of the NCPO and Deputy Defence Minister General Udomdej Sitabutr (both positions appointed by Prayut) who Prayut recently also appointed to lead the Front Command Cabinet that includes former chiefs of the Fourth Army Region to tackle the unrest in the deep South.

Prayut has unilaterally abandoned peace talks due to his refusal to meet any of Mara Patani preconditions or even his own agreed to preconditions. What is left is the insurgency has only violence as a tool for communication with the government.
