BANGKOK, 4 November 2016 (NNT) – The Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Energy will be studying approaches to reduce energy consumption in the transport sector to promote environmental conservation, in accordance with a United Nations' (UN) campaign to reduce greenhouse gas emissions worldwide.

Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning Deputy Director Wilairat Sirisophonsin said that a study indicated that the transport sector tops the nation's energy consumption list, contributing to high greenhouse gas emissions.

The Deputy Director of the Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning said that the UN has initiated a campaign to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions by 20 percent within 2030, while relevant agencies have been studying possible solutions, creating the indicators and analyzing energy consumption data in response to the international campaign.

The Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning has stated that modern transport systems, if utilized properly, will greatly reduce country’s overall greenhouse gas emissions.
