PM tells Thai envoys to adapt to global changes

 

 

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha told about 100 Thai envoys to adapt themselves to global changes and to adopt pro-active approaches in order to present Thailand in a positive light in the international community.

 

The prime minister on Thursday presided over a roundtable meeting with Thai ambassadors and consul-generals from abroad on the subject of “Thai diplomacy: Farsighted, keeping pace with global changes”. Also presented at the event were Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak and senior officials of the Foreign Ministry.

 

The prime minister told the meeting that Thai envoys must have farsightedness and must keep pace with global changes and be part of the vehicle to drive the country forward in a sustainable fashion in line with the government’s 20-year strategy and Thailand Policy 4.0.

Thai envoys told to forge stronger bonds overseas

BANGKOK: -- PRIME MINISTER Prayut Chan-o-cha yesterday instructed Thai ambassadors and consul generals to work on forging diplomacy in line with the 20-year national strategy and the Thailand 4.0 economic model.

 

“We need to keep up with global trends. There have been changes such as the [US] presidential election. We need to stand firm on our ground, whether it be social or to do with the economy. Just don’t make too many demands. We will eventually settle things via talks [with foreign countries],” Prayut said at a press briefing.

Forging bonds means treating the nationals of those countries in your country well. Thailand is way behind due to its xenophobic laws and ridiculous taxes on imported goods.

I guess that the new USA will model itself on Thailand then 3FingeredWillie :-)

If the international community is governed by juntas and military strongmen, then Thailand will look just fine.

''Forge stronger bonds overseas''.     In most cases Thai's that work abroad in any capacity only forge bonds with other Thai's that live or work there.   I've had Thai people i know that have worked in Australia and Europe for up to three years and when they return i ask them how well their English language has come along.  They have all said they worked/lived with other Thai's and didn't get to talk to any locals !

Envoys follow a government's policies and goals.

They are not to be farsighted or creative but rather promote whatever policies the government (usually the Head of Government or Ministry of Foreign Affairs) has established. If such policies are vague, overly narrow, unimaginative, etc., an envoy is not expected nor have the authority to go beyond such policies.

Global trends like easing immigration rules, allowing foreigners to own companies and homes?

One major global change is there are less coups and warlords and more countries subscribing to democracy.

Finally I have found out what the various 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0 things mean.

I read somewhere else that he told Thais living in the States to abide by their laws and behave accordingly.

 

If I were a Thai in the US, I'd be pretty annoyed. "Sorry, I don't live in Thailand, so please don't tell me what to do. Also, who are you? Did I vote for you? Did anyone?.

The democracy enjoyed by the rest of the world runs into a brick wall when sustainability with the governments 20 strategy is discussed. Its apples and oranges fresh and rotten. You choose. 

He tells 100 envoys to adapt and present Thailand in a positive light in the international community.

Considering his own behavour,  how he treats people and the rubbish he spouts maybe he should think about practicing what he preaches.

A Thai living abroad is still property of the Thai state and subject to any law the NCPO fancies making up at any point.

well in my 10 years i have lived here i have had minimal contact with thais. i know this does not go down well on the forum. did manage to to have enough contact with one of them to have 2 half thai kids. even she seems to have minimal contact with other thais.

Adapt! Adapt adapt, what's the matter with you. It's easy! I adapted to PM, easy! I have spoken...
