Asus Zenfone 2. 

 

The problem started out f the blue some two weeks ago and is quite annoying. Tried all sorts of stuff floating around in the interrnet (cache, reset app preferences.....) nothing worked.

 

Reluctant to reset the phone as I don't want to spend a day reinstalling all apps. Any solution out there?

If your phone is rooted, I'd try to use ROM manager and reload GAPPS.

no, not rooted. Tried that once a while ago and will never ever do that again :D
