S44 will not be used against overloaded trucks but law will be strictly enforced

 

 

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha is not willing to invoke Section 44 of the interim constitution to deal with overloaded trucks as proposed by a group of trucking operators, saying that the problem can be tackled if the existing law is strictly enforced, government spokesman Lt-Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said over the weekend.

 

However, he said that the government would tighten up regulating trucks and passenger vans to ensure public safety and public interests.

 

As for overloaded trucks, the spokesman disclosed that provincial authorities, in cooperation with military and personnel in the provinces, to strictly inspect trucks to make sure that each 10-wheel truck must carry load not exceeding 25 tonnes and not more than 50.5 tonnes for a trailer.

 

He noted that, in the past, the weight regulation was not strictly enforced resulting to many overloaded trucks plying the country’s highways, causing extensive damages to roads each year.

 

Many trucks which carry farm products such as sugar cane and construction materials such as sand, soil and pebbles are not covered with canvas, resulting in soil or farm products spilling on roads, posing ricks to other motorists, said Lt-Gen Sansern.

Yes they can't be taking it seriously as it's only to be strictly enforced not a purge or crackdown.

Well this certainly goes into the bucket of 'Heard it, Seen it, got the tee shirt'

And it doesn't matter that mini-vans/taxi's cause congestion infront of every mall leading to very dangerous situation/lost time.

 

Why not use article44 to get the police doing their job?

What a concept; enforce laws instead of using lawless authority. 

What a joke! I have never ever seen the police do anything proactive to enforce the existing trafic laws. The occasional road block and making more laws are not going to solve anything.

Wont work unless any fine is more than the value saved of transporting double the quantity of goods !

  No patrol cars on the streets = no enforcement.  A little tea money to find out the local roadblock schedule and Bob's your uncle.  <yawn>

No law in Thailand is strictly enforced; from traffic laws to murder and rape.

How many times have I seen the queue  of sugar can lorries on the hard shoulder 50M before the police checkpoint? None will go through the check point as they're illegal in some way and the police won't approach the check point ........ little if any point at all having the law or the police to enforce them.

Hopefully they will turn a blind eye on how to make the law that work like in the North America highways it is a nightmare going with a legal weigh load.

how would the 44 thingy be used anyway? hanging after an army court hearing for anyone caught overloading?

announcement made, move onto the next issue. revisit with a similar announcement at future dates.

Without a purge of the police making sure they are not corrupt you can make all the laws you want. It will look great on paper.. but is not worth the paper it is printed on. Many laws in Thailand are quite good nothing wrong with them. The problem is enforcement and the courts. The police is corrupt and the courts are slow.

It seems that other laws are treated, too often, as a joke. About time for the Government to order and expect their authorities (Police, etc.) to do their work properly or lose their job. No sideways transfers, no excuses do it or you're out! And that should start from the top down.

Exactly, grab a headline to make it look as if something's being done then file and forget until it needs to be trotted out again.

The words can be rearranged to make it look like a new initative.

Some members will remember the game on the old show Sunday Night At The London Palladium where the contestant was invited to arrange the words into a well known phrase or saying only here it's a well used phrase.

Just have a look in the rice season how much is put in to the back of a pick up truck, that is why you would never buy a pick up truck  Second hand of a thai .

most will travel in the night, not much police presence then if any ?
