BANGKOK: -- Amnesty International (AI) on Monday urged Thai authorities to drop charges against human rights lawyer Sirikan Charoensiri, who faces prosecution after providing legal assistance to anti-junta student activists.


Amnesty International (AI) on Monday urged Thai authorities to drop charges against human rights lawyer Sirikan Charoensiri, who faces prosecution after providing legal assistance to anti-junta student activists.


The AI also urged authorities to protect the independence and freedom of lawyers, end the repression of peaceful dissidents, and respect and protect the rights to freedom of expression, association and peaceful assembly.

Oh no doubt the junta will shortly issue a statement, recording that after a meeting, Amnesty have said that they fully understand Thailand's current circumstances, and appreciate the efforts being made to follow the roadmap etc etc etc.....

I never met a lawyer yet I did not dislike. 

Doubt that the junta will take much notice of AI.

They will take notice and don't want to upset the UN, a downgrading again for Human rights violations would be embarrassing. Here's a simply explained article all about what can be done with countries that treat humans unequally.
