Mae Sot visa run Nov 2016

Featured Replies

Hi! First of all this is my first time on Thaivisa forum so I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Marc, I'm holding European passport and I'm staying in Thailand on METV and traveling to other Asian countries for tourism.

Now, I have time in Thailand until the end of the month and no real travel plans like last few times. It means I need to do simple "visa run". I haven't done it before so my passport looks like I'm real traveler.

I'm thinking to go to Myanmar (Mae Sot land border) just to make in and out. I did read all reports and advices that I found however many of them seems to be not up to date and laws (if there are any) changes so often.

Could anyone who has done it not too long time ago advice me if it is possible to drive there, and then leave Thailand without pre-arranged Myanmar visa, pay that 500 THB (or 10USD) for "one day Myanmar visa") and then go back to Thailand and get a stamp for another 60 days with my METV? I will be very, very grateful for advices.

You can do the crossing at Mae Sot since you have a valid visa for re-entry.

You will be able to pay 500 baht or $10 for a border pass to enter Myanmar. Then turn around and come back to the country to get a new 60 day entry from you visa.

You could also apply for a 30 day extension of your 60 day entry at an immigration office for a fee of 1900 baht.

Thank you! I still have valid METV.

I was thinking to extend it however I'd like to avoid the crowd on New Year so I'll do visa run now to get 2 months :)

Mae Sot immigration is generally fast and efficient. I popped over to Myawaddy for some sightseeing not long ago and had no problems. if you have some time, look around the town. Oh, and bring as much Myanmar beer back that you can. It's only about 21 baht a can and far superior to Chang, Singha, or Leo.

So, a simple border run to get 14 days which I could extend in Thailand for 60 days, as I living with my Thai children, is not possible there? ?But in Tachilek border possible?

The only border crossing to Myanmar that allows a crossing for a new visa exempt entry is at Ranong. None of the other 3 allow them.
