charliebadenhop
I have an English teacher friend who wants to make some extra spending money by cleaning houses for people. I am guessing this is not legal to do, but that is only my guess. Please let me know what is what in this regard.
BritTim
It is against both the letter and the spirit of the labor laws. There are plenty of Thais who are capable of cleaning houses. If he is doing this quietly for people he knows, he will likely pass under the radar, but to get a work permit covering him is impossible.
FritsSikkink
a work permit is only valid for 1 particular job at 1 employer. you will never get 1 for a cleaning job
blackcab
Work permits are issued to foreigners where there is no suitable Thai person available to do the job. That's not the case for cleaning. In addition, there are prohibited occupations that foreigners are never allowed to do. The very first item on the prohibited list is Manual Work/Manual Labour. So doing a manual cleaning job is definitely not allowed, and never will be allowed.

I often think the same thing but in his defense the search function is totally worthless since the "upgrade". I hope TV is on this because the usual redundancy is becoming overwhelming.

Not for the area of work that o.p has asked about of course.

In fairness, there are some people who have better things to do with their lives than read every thread ever posted on ThaiVisa. Those who are interested in the Thai labor laws, and good at finding stuff online, will easily have found that list of restricted occupations. However, we should be tolerant of those who spend the majority of their time enjoying nature, interacting with carbon-based life forms, and the like.
