Distribution of cash handouts to registered poor commences on Dec 3

BANGKOK: -- The Finance Ministry has decided to postpone the distribution of one-time cash handouts to the country’s 8.3 million registered poor people from December 1 to December 3 in order that officials of the Revenue Department can recheck that their actual annual income is below 100,000 baht or not.

Finance permanent secretary Dr. Somchai Sujjapongse said the Revenue Department would need 1-2 days to check with the database to determine that all the 8.3 million poor people who registered with the national E-payment database are indeed poor and would be eligible to the handouts.

The cash handouts range from 1,500 baht to a maximum of 3,000 baht. Farmers who earn less than 30,000 baht a year form their crops will receive 3,000 baht each while those who earn more will receive 1,500 baht. The urban poor will receive 3,000 baht each.

Well, at least we can't accuse the junta of buying votes.....

playing santa-claus again with other people's money...

why not offer the poor a job

if a farmer does not earn 30k, why not make him work in a factory ...

but there is no drinking all day and watching the rice grow with his buddies with alcohol

one off payments like this do not help the poor. surely there are better ways to help them and buy their votes at the same time.

The applicant looks like a moto cy taxi driver, thought they did quite well?

Job at 3,000 bt/year ?

Maybe is it were the year 1735.

Have another beer.

The unregistered poor? You have to register to admit poverty! Where do you register and how do you prove it? Do you have to be Thai and why hand out money? A job would be more helpful, surely!

How do Thais sign up for this ?

is it one payment per household  (based on tabian ban) , or per each person in household ?

yes its small money , but it is a big thing if you are just scrapping by.......

Maybe you would be singing a different song if your available money was reduced to less than 30k/year and you were on the business end of a garden hoe weeding scores of Rai of farmland everyday or are you going to build these fantasy factories that will employ all of these lazy alcoholic farmers, many over 60 years old which happens to be the mandatory retirement age in Thailand so automatically you would employ them, retire them and pay them a pension!   What a crock!!!!

That's grand!  The poor  folks will be able to have a christmas party now....... :saai:

BTW isn't the picture taken in the births, deaths and marriage office out near the Eastern Bus Terminal on Sukhumvit Rd?

An education leading to an honest, decent paying job might be helpful too. But....lol who in charge wants that?

Can't see the assistance from the government stopping here, 8.3 million I suggest is not the total number regarding the registration criteria, but those who are registered. Would be good to see the government provide more assistance for the farmers/ageing rural population. Reassuring to see the poor in the cities are taken into account also.
