PATTAYA: -- At 4.30pm, on the afternoon of November 30, Pattaya police and medics received reports of a body found on the beach at Naklua, Soi 16.

At the scene a German national, known only as Otto, who was though to be aged seventy-four-years old, had collapsed on the sand and was pronounced dead.

Witnesses said that Otto was well-known in the area and often swimming in the sea. He is thought to have been staying in Soi Rayong and had been seen shortly before swimming around 150 meters from where his body was then found.

The German Embassy has been informed and the body has been taken for autopsy to establish the cause of death.

R.I.P. Otto...

So he had his last swim in the sea and made it back to the beach to die. A bit young at 74 but all in all not a bad ending I think.

RIP Otto.

R.I.P. Otto

Name the same front wards and backwards.  OTTO .  Even if you read in the mirror.

How clever of you to notice and tell us all. You might have made the most pointless comment of the day. Congratulations.

Yeah its called a palindrome......Not the cause of death, the word thing.

Damn fine way to go.  We should all be so lucky.

Well, I wouldn't mind lasting a bit longer than this.

My condolences to his relatives and friends.

I did not know him, sorry about it.

But in earnest: OK age to draw the curtain, and then that's how you want to do it. Retire in Thailand and just keel over one fine day, never felt a thing. At least that's how it likely sounds.

Naklua?

That's really how this beach is called?

.. fits sadly in the news

Can you explain?

I simply don't understand.

on the beach at Naklua, Soi 16.

This northern part of Pattaya is called Naklua, a non perfect transcript of the Thai word for "salt field" (seems they dried sea salt in ancient times).

I know the place as a former mate lives in one of the towers along Soi 16. Still a high number of Germans in the area.

And the usual name for the whole stretch of Naklua beaches is "Wong Amat".

Ok. Get it. Thx

From the transcription, I read "naklua beach" as " น่ากลัว" (the "scary beach")

(I would write it rather as "Na Kleua" then, but that's personal)

RIP to the man

Could have been worse , he could have ended up in an elderly home in Europe. RIP.
