90 day reporting, should I bother?

Featured Replies

I will have to do 90 day reporting in the next week. I have a TE visa and will leave the country a few days later. Can I just pay the fine? I know I can do it via mail or other means. If I fail to report what is the worst thing that they can do?

If you like to pay the 500 baht a day fine than don't bother, beside it might put a blemish

on your record as an over stayer, as well as have to be sent tto the desk behind the

immigration booth and spend 20 minutes there paying the fine... other than that,

you have nothing to lose....

What is a TE visa?

Why is the OP referring to 90 day reporting but the reply from Ezzra refers to overstay?

Confused.

The fine for not, or a late, 90-day report is baht 2,000, altho under some circumstances, it can go up to baht 5,000.

It is not enforced, or collected, at the airport, it's picked up the next time you go to your local Immigration office for service.

FYI, it is in the local office's computer.  A couple weeks back when I did my most recent 90-day report the IO said "over," the computer said it was more than 90 days since my last report.  Evidently they didn't have my most recent return to Thailand from late August.  I simply pointed out the Departure Card stapled in my passport, end of story, no problem.

You can do your 90 day report up to 15 days before and up to 7 days late so if you are only going to be a few days after then it shouldn't make any difference if you don't do it.

Not true.  The rule is very simple:  spend 90 consecutive days in Thailand and a 90-day report is due.  Just by leaving the country within the 7 day late period for filing the 90 day report doesn't relieve you of the responsibility of filing the report.  The report is still due.  If you don't file one before the 7 day late period expires  that means that you did not file a timely 90 day report.  Any future business at the immigration office will open you up to being fined for not having filed a 90 day report when you had spent 90 consecutive days in Thailand.

Had an interesting development my last trip to Immo at Jomthien to do my 90-day report. Officer took my app and passport, leafed through the passport a few times, told me I had a problem. Seems the last time I entered at Swampy they failed to apply an "entry" stamp in my passport. They did manage to note that my re-entry permit had been "used" on the re-entry date. My new Departure Card in the system also contained my flight number and entry date. Officer informed me that I must go to Swampy Immo and get an entry stamp but take with me my ticket if I have it. Off my GF and I went to my home for the ticket and then on to  Swampy. After being sent to four different places my GF talked to a young lady in an Info booth. She said she has a friend in Immo who will take care of us. She called the friend and then sent us to section M to wait for the  Immo lady to come find us. About 30 minutes later she showed up, took my passport, and said, "Wait here, I'll get this taken care of for you." About a hour later she returned with my passport complete with entry stamp. The delay is understandable as Swampy was "swamped" with flyers. Back to Jomthien Immo where an Officer pulled me out of the line, examined my new stamp, and said "You are OK now" I asked "Don't you have to give me a paper with the new report date?" He told me they had already done that the first time I was in which means I didn't have to come back to Immo. Could not have been nicer at Immo both at Jomthien and at Swampy. A long day for me though at age 78. Arrived at Immo at 7:50 am and left at 3:45 pm.  Moral of this story; check your stamps when you come in.

This is announced but as everything in Thailand, it highly depends on the actual office. So far I could experience the procedures of 4 immigration offices and found 6 different procedures. ( yes, I teach Math too )

Just catching the safe side of the cake, I keep myself to  -3  +3 days intervals.

My 90 report is due on the 1st Jan 2017  and my retirement visa extension is due on the 28th Jan 2017 can I align them so that the 90 reporting is closer to the 28th Jan date?

I know many people that never do 90 day reporting and have been here for years. There is no problem at airport. Returning is a matter of having your re-entry permit before boarding a flight out of Thailand.

You can do your extension up to 30 days early or 45 days at some offices.

It seems you could do them both the first week of January without a problem.

As you know enforcement of existing laws sometimes changes and can be hit or miss.  I know that when I go to my immigration office in Phuket for my annual retirement extension, to obtain a re-entry permit, get a residence certificate, actually any reason that requires me to hand over my passport, they check that my 90-day reporting status is good.  Maybe the many people you know use a different immigration office ;-)

No one has ever asked for 90 day reporting when doing retirement extension or re-entry permit.

As I found out a few years back through a big hit to the wallet, getting a new visa does not reset your 90 day report.  The visa and 90 day report are entirely separate things.

I don't think you can align the two but it won't hurt at all to ask when you are at immigration.  Please let us know the results.

As I wrote he can do them both on the same day this year.

If doing reports in person it is possible to keep the report date from slipping farther from the date the extension is due by doing the report a 2 or 3 days late since the next report date will be 90 days from the date of the report. I have done it the past to keep two together.

Doing my reports by mail now so it not possible to do it now. This year I had to mail my report a couple of weeks after doing my extension since the dates did not fit  the date I wanted to apply for the extension.
