Do I need a visa?

Featured Replies

Im a US citizen wanting to visit Thailand for some time this year:

Jan 1-March 1 (60 days): Thailand

March 1-April 1 (30 days): USA

April 1-May 1 (30 days): Thailand

If I did a visa run to Singapore on Feb 1, I could get another 30-day visa exemption. However when I return April 1st, will that count as a second "visa run"? I heard theres only 1 allowed per year? I'd rather avoid getting a visa as theres not an embassy near me. Also would I need return tickets for any of the flights, since as of now I just have my 1 way. Thanks!

  • If you travel to Thailand without a visa the airline might refuse boarding if you don't have an onward ticket dated within 30 days of arrival. A cheap ticket to anywhere should be accepted.
  • If you enter on Jan 1st, using visa exemption, you can extend that by 30 days at immigration for 1,900 baht. Better than doing a visa run to Singapore.
  • You shouldn't have any problem being granted a second visa exempt entry in April with a 1 month break in the US.

if you did a visa run on feb 1 , you would be on overstay with an exemption. 1 jan-31 jan = 31 days + 1 feb is 32 days

april 1 - may 1 = 31 days

Day of arrival is day 1

Airline could refuse boarding because you don't have a ticket out of the country within the 30 days
