Siem Reap Guesthouse Burns Down

Featured Replies

A large fire destroyed nearly half of a guesthouse and injured one person in Siem Reap City’s Svay Dangkum commune yesterday morning, with police blaming the blaze on faulty electrical wiring. Svay Dangkum commune police officer Khun Hean said the Garden Village Guesthouse caught fire early yesterday morning due to a problem with the electricity.

“It happened at about 6:30am. It burned only the guesthouse,” he said. “The owner of the guesthouse injured his back when he tried to jump from the first floor. The cause of the fire was an electrical error.”

Mr. Hean said about 80 percent of the guesthouse was damaged in the fire. “The fire damaged mostly cushions, blankets, mattresses and beds and the guests ran out [during the fire],” he added.
