Private sector confident Thai economy to recover better in 2017

BANGKOK, 7 December 2016 (NNT) - The Joint Standing Committee on Commerce, Industry and Banking has forecast that the Thai economy this year may be lower than a 3.3% estimate but expressed confidence that the 2017 economy will recover continuously.

The committee said a -4.2 export growth rate in October would result in lower Thai economic expansion in 2017. However, the government’s budget disbursement totaling 422 billion baht and stimulus measures would benefit the Thai economy next year, the committee concluded.

As for next year’s economy, the committee said that it would recover continuously due to higher private spending, the stimulus measures as well as increasing global oil price. The committee predicted that the 2017 Thai economy would significantly recover in the 2nd – 3rd quarters and expand by 3.5-4% as expected.

The U.S’ trade policy, the Fed’s interest rate increase and the political situation of the EU will be internal risk factors to the Thai economy next year.

I've been living here since 2010 and every bloody year they say the same thing in the news.

But the same old Thai woman is still out there in the alley selling her coffee and condensed milk every morning,, isn't she?

15  hours  every day selling sweet Coffee seven days a week by her Coffee Cart stall.

From 5 a.m. each day, to those catching the BTS or MRT going to work.

Now that is the real Thai economy, isn't it?

The real Thai economy is where people older than 30 have their own huge shop from 2 x 2 meter where they don't show their price.

In the malls they hire only uneducated kids because they are so  cheap (and uneducated)..

But they refuse to lower the baht so exports will be lower again next year, and so will tourism.

Baked fresh every day and still sold 3 days later....that's how it works in Thailand. Mai pen lai.

Thai spinmeisters are something and a bit. Loss of face does not allow them to say "growth DECLINED by 4.2%" so they have to spin it as "export GROWTH of minus 4.2%".

At least they realise the chooks are coming home soon and they are beginning to fess up that growth this year might not make the generous prediction of 3.3%. Most International agencies forecast 2.9% which is well less than half of some of their neighbours.

like a game of who is the most convincing liar. my home country of nz has reported a growth rate of around 3% and the economy is very strong there. how can thailand which from most reports is in real trouble have about the same growth rate?

I am 75 and in my old age I seem to have GROWN about MINUS 3 cms.    There, I feel a lot better now!

In other words they have never and will never have a clue what the economy will do, I think they can't even figure out what it has done. Where will the forty million poor folks in this country get the money to boost the economy here. Borrow it?
