Ex-minister urges civil servants to resist plan for private insurers to manage budget

BANGKOK: -- FORMER PUBLIC health minister Dr Mongkol na Songkhla yesterday called on civil servants to oppose the government’s plan to transfer their medical-care scheme to privately run health-insurance providers, warning that their welfare would be affected and state-run hospitals could collapse financially.

“The best way to resist this plan is for civil servants to come forward and express their opposition,” Mongkol said at a press conference.

He made the suggestion when asked whether he would write a letter of protest against the plan.

“...The best way to resist this plan is for civil servants to come forward and express their opposition...”

A move guaranteed to ensure that all their medical-care will be provided by the "government" for a long, long time to come !!!

On face value, recent trends suggest  Dr Mongkol na Songkhla is correct. Thin edge of spiralling health care. Good on him for expressing his considered pov.

NCPO will be taking video, names and expanding inactive duty posts.

Oh, and the next 5% pay raise (third since the coup) for civil service might be very selective.

The only problem is that civil servants don't pay a Satang for their health care and benefit the most from all 3 schemes. If I remember correctly this scheme cost the government +- B 15 000 per member (remember civil servants and their families are insured), the B 30 scheme cost the government B 2800 per year per patient and the SS members (the only ones that pay monthly) cost the government the least per year.

Oh, just charge the Farangs 500% more to

keep the hospitals solvent....
